France Tour Day 3 - 14 May 2024
Day 3 saw us playing our final round at Hardelot Les Dunes, which most felt was the best of the courses. Thankfully the forecast rain never materialised as much more than occasional light drizzle.
Colin Dunkerley took the individual prize with 37 points on countback from Martin Dinkele, with Peter Galpin and Mike Hamment close behind on 35.
Gerry Tucker took away a special award for unknowingly paying for 3 rounds of golf when he had never intended to play, and also for making his own inadvisable awards of shots (drink not golf) penalties to the President, Secretary and Captain of the Society (amongst others) for sundry misdemeanours on and around the golf courses.
Strong tour performances were put in by Brian Smith and Charlie Brown, who were each named amongst the prize winners 5 times, but especially Richard Newport for 2 nearest the pins, 2 longest drives, winning the Tour Trophy, and coming 3rd on the first day.
Stuart Lester, Captain and Tour Organiser
At our parting lunch in Hardelot, Mike Hamment gave thanks on behalf of all the tourists to our Captain, Stuart Lester for his excellent organisation. An overseas tour requires even more input than normal and Stuart did extremely well. The courses, hotel, restaurants, travel arrangements and even the weather were all very good indeed!
