Fitz v St Edmund Hall, West Herts GC - Thursday 17 July 2025

The Fitz team at West Herts

The venue was perfect for the most keenly fought match of the season. The weather was hot, sticky with occasional light tropical rain. The fairways were parched and running long, contrasting with the lush greens running true. All the conditions for a fun day’s golf.

We had an innovative format too…. seven Teddy Hall alumni against 14 Fitz hardies. 18-hole match play for the Teddy Hall players, and 9-hole match play and a 9-hole stableford for the Fitz golfers. Hence, we actually had two contests in parallel. That was a first.

The Challenge Cup though was what the day was all about and for the first time in over ten years Teddy Hall won by 4 points to 3 points. Chris Atkinson and Clive Penwarden winning for the Hall, with Mike Hamment and David Williams getting a point back for Fitz. The other four matches were halved. So, as usual, a very close contest and a good time was had by all.

Many thanks to all the lovely staff at West Herts Golf Club for their support and great facilities.
