Society Day (Guests Welcome)

Format of Day:

A Society Day where members can bring a guest.

This is our first visit to Ellesborough GC – a picturesque course near Wendover and also very close to Chequers. It is located on the Chiltern Escarpment and is dominated by Coombe Hill on which stands the impressive monument erected after the Boer War. The monument is the highest point for many miles around and on the sloping greens, the local adage to ‘putt towards the monument’ is invariably sound advice.

The original 9 holes were re-designed by H S Colt and the later added 9 holes were designed by James Braid – so this is a fine course which is well drained and very playable even after a wet spell of weather. There’s an interesting mix of holes, including five Par 3s.

Ellesborough is a friendly golf club and has a nice Clubhouse, with good food – and this should be an excellent Society Day.
